Link Excel data to PowerPoint charts

To link Excel data to PowerPoint with Deckary, select the worksheet range in Excel and choose Create link in Deckary's Linking pane. In PowerPoint, open a Deckary chart and choose Use Excel data when that source is available. The chart keeps a binding to the selected workbook range.

Create the Excel link#

1. Open the source workbook in Excel and sign in to Deckary.
2. Select the complete range, including the category and series headers required by the chart.
3. Open Deckary's Linking pane and choose Create link.
4. Give the link a recognizable name if the workbook contains several chart sources.

Deckary rejects an empty range. One link can contain at most 10,000 cells and 2,000,000 text characters. Create separate links for unrelated data blocks instead of combining them into one oversized range.

Use the link in PowerPoint#

1. Open the destination presentation in PowerPoint with the same Deckary account.
2. Insert a Deckary chart or select an existing Deckary chart.
3. In the chart's data source card, choose Use Excel data.
4. Confirm the available workbook, sheet, and range, then apply the chart change.

The chart remains a PowerPoint object. Most supported chart families are native charts with an embedded workbook; the Deckary link metadata is stored with the PowerPoint document so the binding travels with the presentation.

Refresh linked charts#

When a newer Excel snapshot is available, Deckary compares its data version with each bound chart and refreshes stale occurrences sequentially. The presentation-wide reconciler can update every stale occurrence of a link, not only the chart currently selected. A copied Deckary chart receives a distinct chart identity before it is updated.

The source workbook and PowerPoint presentation must be available to the signed-in Deckary workflow for a fresh snapshot to be resolved. If the Excel source is missing or deleted, PowerPoint marks the source unavailable instead of silently substituting different data.

Edit or unlink the data#

Choose Edit data to enter values manually, or choose Unlink to remove the live source binding. Manual entry is the alternative when an organization does not allow worksheet data to be relayed for synchronization.

Data handling#

Excel linking is optional. It sends the selected cell snapshot to Deckary's relay so Excel and PowerPoint sessions signed in to the same account can resolve it. Link discovery returns data-free summaries; the full source snapshot is resolved separately when a bound chart needs it. Use manual data entry if your organization does not allow workbook data to be relayed, and review the current Deckary privacy policy before linking confidential data.
